We’ve had a string of rainy weekends lately. Have you ever noticed how when it’s cold and grey outside it seems to sap your energy? All your “get up and go” is gone and if you’re not careful the day’s slips by and you’ve accomplished a big fat zilch!
Next time you’re having a low energy day try some of these unusual tips for boosting your energy. They really work, they’re super easy and you can try them out right now!
1) Double Up on Your Water
Feeling tired and rundown is one of the first signs of dehydration. Drinking more water can energize your cells, lift your mood and give you back the energy you need to have an amazing day.
2) Go Outside
Being outside in nature can make a big difference. Whenever you can, get outdoors and soak up some vitamin D from the sun and energy from the earth. It can make you feel happier and more energetic. The outdoors is a great energy-boosting strategy even on gray and rainy days. In fact, one study showed that people got a mental energy boost just from looking at outdoor pictures!
3) Put on a Fresh Pair of Socks
I’m not sure exactly how this works but it does. There’s something about putting on a fresh, clean pair of socks that can put a little spring back in your step. It does increase the laundry a bit but it’s well worth it for the additional energy you’ll feel.
4) Take a Boogie Break
Sometimes when your energy tank is low you need to change your environment to fill it back up. One of the best ways to do that is to put on some of your favorite tunes and rock out. It can change your mood, motivate you to move and boost energy all at the same time!
Can you do the fandango?
Laughter may be the best medicine for those low energy days. It not only reduces your stress and puts you in a better mood but studies suggest that laughing can also boost your energy levels! So find something funny and have a good chuckle.
6) Exercise in the afternoon
Exercise gets your heart pumping and blood circulating so it’s an excellent way to boost energy. I love working out in the afternoon because it gives me a nice burst of energy that can carry me through the rest of the day. Even going for a walk during your lunch break can make a big difference!
7) Take a Cat Nap
According to the National Sleep Foundation, a planned nap can increase alertness and performance for several hours. If you’re going to give a cat nap a try be sure you don’t nap too late in the day (it could interrupt your sleep cycle). Also, shorter naps (10 -20 minutes) are best for increasing energy and alertness.
You can boost energy naturally with any one of these techniques and you don’t need to worry about artificial stimulants. It’s best to remember that these ideas really work best when you have an occasional low-energy day.
