What’s The Deal with Salt?
Do you dig salt? Like way too much? If so you may be like many Americans how need to shake the salt habit!
The CDC says the average american consumes more than 3436 mg of sodium a day! When you consider the AHA recommends consuming less than 1500 mg / day you can see that as a society we’re way to salty!
What Can You Do?
Of course cutting down on table salt can help…but much of the over consumption of salt comes from the “Salty 6”. Lowering your sodium intake helps keep your blood pressure in check and lowers your risk of heart disease.
Tips to Lower Your Sodium Intake
- Avoid processed foods
- Read labels carefully
- Season your foods with herbs and natural spices instead of salt (like Lemon, Garlic, chives, or basil or as Simon and Garfunkel used to say: ” Parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme “
For better health, shake the salt habit.
